Savoy Room Name Recognizes The Chase’s Inspiration
The Private Residence community added another unique feature to its list of amenities, the Savoy Room. The resident gathering area is named after the historic building that inspired Sam Koplar to build The Park Plaza in 1929, the Savoy Plaza Hotel in New York City.
In January 1929, Sam Koplar, the original developer of the Park Plaza, visited the Savoy Plaza Hotel in New York City, prior to leaving on a trip for Europe. Upon his return, he decided to build a hotel just as luxurious in St. Louis. The Park Plaza, designed by architects Schopp and Baumann, was called “Park,” because of its proximity to St. Louis’ Forest Park, and “Plaza,” as a nod to the Savoy Plaza Hotel.
The Savoy Room serves as a community gathering area, and it includes a fireplace, dining spaces, plasma television, attached serving area and kitchen, conference table, lounge furnishings and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the front of The Chase Park Plaza and Forest Park.
