Bringing a Piece of "Home" to Katrina Victims
Nearly two years after the storm, Hurricane Katrina survivors and re-settlers are now seeking to restore a sense of home as they restore buildings.
To meet this need, developers of The Private Residences at The Chase Park Plaza recently partnered with Service International, a nonprofit community restoration organization, to donate furniture, fixtures, cabinets and appliances from 250 Park Plaza apartments.
"It was a real blessing," said Fred Lafser, donation coordinator and consultant to The Private Residences at The Chase Park Plaza. "By the time we were done, we had removed well over $1 million worth of materials. People who were desperate for a stove are now preparing their family dinner on something that came from a renowned living area in St. Louis."
The Chase Park Plaza Supports Variety Week
A longtime partner with Variety, the Children's Charity of St. Louis, The Chase Park Plaza recently played host to Variety Week 2007 events. Specifically, the venue supported the Dinner With the Stars gala, Variety Leadership Group meetings and the Variety Women Fashion Show, offering more than $30,000 in menu discounts, meeting and banquet rooms and other in-kind donations.
"We're privileged to offer support to one of St. Louis most treasured nonprofit organizations," said Jim Smith, owner of The Chase Park Plaza and developer of The Private Residences at The Chase Park Plaza. "Having them here each April is a pleasure and an honor."
Hotel Restoration Nears Completion
While The Private Residences at The Chase Park Plaza are in development, the hotel side is getting the finishing touches on its own $22 million makeover.
Guestrooms have been completely renovated with new carpet, bathrooms, furniture, televisions and artwork. A concierge level is now on the ninth floor, providing access to The Chase Club lounge and complimentary meals, hors d'oeuvres and cocktails.
You may soon notice a new lighting plan throughout the hotel interior, as well as a recreated Chaser's Bar. The Lindell Ballroom, Zodiac Room, Starlight Roof, Khorassan Room, Regency Room and all public lobbies are also under renovation.
